Exploring Happiness Newsletter

Dear Reader,

Do you sometimes wonder if you are happy and how you would know if you are? I used to think, 'so, it's all going fairly well. Does that mean I'm happy? Is that it?'. Can you relate?

If you can relate, you might want to take my Happiness Audit, which I created based on all my research. Ask yourself these questions:

  1. Do you take responsibility for your happiness?
  2. Can you let go of stuff, feelings & bad experiences?
  3. Do you sleep around 8 hours per night?
  4. Do you feel like you can stop and take a rest?
  5. Do you nourish your body with nutritious food?
  6. Do you like being alone?
  7. Do you invest in relationships with friends, family and community?
  8. Do you believe you can be happy?
  9. Do you actively enjoy and savour moments?
  10. Is it ok for you not to be right?

I also created the PDF below to provide context for the questions and help you see what might be important for you to work on. The aim is to answer 'yes' to all of them. The questions look at your perception of life and happiness, including how much you feel in control. They also touch on health, relationships, and mindset. Questions looking at the same aspects are deliberately not grouped.

This leads me to my offer to have a chat with you if you feel there are a few too many 'no' answers. I'm setting up a coaching business and I'm happy to offer a free call as a 'taster'. If you are interested, just answer this email.

Have a happy week!

Pillars of Happiness: Body

Pillars of Happiness: Body Each Tuesday, I'm reflecting on how aspects of our lives and society relate to happiness and how we can increase our happiness. This week, I'm looking at the first pillar of my framework Pillars of Happiness - body. This is an exploration how body parts and processes are responsible for our happiness. The Pillars of Happiness is a framework I've developed over the years to understand happiness and its determinants. This post is about the first pillar, Body. Why is...

Learning Happiness

Learning Happiness Each Tuesday, I'm reflecting on how aspects of our lives and society relate to happiness and how we can increase our happiness. This week, I'm looking at the happiness equation and how our set point, life circumstances and intentional activity influence our happiness. I keep saying happiness is a learnable skill. And it is. Some people are born happy with personality traits (e.g. arousability, extraversion and negative affect) that support happiness. But if you are not born...

Exploring Happiness Newsletter - Anger

Anger Each Tuesday, I'm reflecting on how aspects of our lives and society relate to happiness and how we can increase our happiness. This week, I'm looking at our defence mechanism, anger. In this newsletter, I am exploring how to reduce anger in important relationships - in my case, with my kids. I have been taking a good look at anger recently. It's so energy-intensive. When I get angry, I spend a lot of time on it. I decided that I'd rather spend more time on other things. It's not that I...
